Strasburg laughs when Verlander is announced as the All-Star starter.
The National League has won the All-Star Game by a score of 8-0. It was the most exciting All-Star game since never. It was very uninteresting. But despite this lack of entertainment, three of the Nationals star players made their Nationals All-Star debuts; Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez and Bryce Harper. Ian Desmond was made an All-Star as well, but was kept far away from the stadium for the fear that he would try to engage teammates in polite conversation. Few wanted that.
So how did each of the Nationals do in the game?
Gio Gonzalez: 1 IP, 1 K. Stephen Strasburg: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB. Bryce Harper: 0-1, 1 BB, 1 K.
Gio did very well in relief of Matt Cain, who was taken out after 2 innings. Damn Tony LaRussa, stop overmanaging! Strasburg followed up and only pitched 1 inning. Thank goodness he didn’t throw any more to count against his innings limit. Thank you Tony LaRussa, continue overmanaging!
Bryce Harper made his All-Star debut to much excitement, and walked. What happened to that hustle? You could’ve at least ran, don’t get cocky Bryce. Harper also made a booboo in the outfield when he let a ball fall behind him that he lost in the sky. Right before the ball came crashing to the ground Harper gave off a clear shrug. This either meant he couldn’t see the ball, or that after examining the sky and finding nothing, he had lost all faith that there was indeed something looking over mankind.
Here’s hoping next year the Nationals can make up the bulk of the All-Star team. No, Livan Hernandez being there in 2005 didn’t count, even if he did account for the bulk of the team’s mass.
